The Yunnan International Festival of Russian Music breaks away from the single-dimension evaluation of traditional piano competitions. Deeply integrating the core essence of the Russian music education system, it introduces an entirely new “professional chamber music collaboration” component alongside its regular assessment.

The competition innovatively adopts a “Solo + Chamber Music” dual-track selection model, designed to discover young performers who combine solo capability with collaborative skill and comprehensive musical accomplishment, while providing piano enthusiasts with a high-level platform for international artistic exchange.

With music as its bond, the Festival seeks to bring together the power of women in the arts, featuring a dedicated women’s themed concert and a Women Artists Award in tribute to the outstanding artistic achievements of women creators.

Beyond the core competition, a series of accompanying cultural events — recitals, masterclasses and art lectures — will be presented during the Festival, showcasing the unique charm of classical music in every dimension.

For the top three prize winners of the Artist Division, the Organizing Committee will provide exclusive career development opportunities: invitations to solo and chamber music recitals held in China, as well as valuable opportunities to collaborate with renowned symphony orchestras at home and abroad and to perform at top-tier concert seasons.

All members of the jury are formally appointed by the Organizing Committee after rigorous review, ensuring the authority and fairness of the adjudication.

Responsibilities of the jury: the Chair of the Jury presides over adjudication meetings, interprets the adjudication rules, coordinates the resolution of disagreements, and signs the final list of prize winners; jury members score independently in strict accordance with the scoring criteria and observe the adjudication discipline; the Supervisory Panel oversees the entire adjudication process.

Code of conduct for jury members: during the adjudication period, jury members shall not contact contestants or related parties in private, shall not disclose adjudication discussions or unpublished results, and shall strictly implement the recusal system.

Payment methods: PayPal

Online payment via PayPal is the primary method for international contestants. A secure payment link will be provided upon confirmation of registration.

Payment must be completed by the corresponding registration deadline; failure to pay on time is deemed an automatic waiver of eligibility. Once registration is confirmed, entry fees are non-refundable except under the circumstances specified in these Statutes.

Management of regional divisions: regional divisions are authorized by the Organizing Committee following unified review, and quotas for advancement are allocated in proportion to the number of registrants. Contact information for regional divisions is available on the Official WeChat Account “LinyinduOfficial” (林音渡艺术).

Modification of registration information: personal information and repertoire may be modified before the registration deadline; no changes are permitted thereafter.

Age groups of the Non-Artist Divisions

• Junior Division: under 12 (born after January 26, 2015)
• Youth A Division: 12–15 (born between January 26, 2012 and January 25, 2015)
• Youth B Division: 15–18 (born between January 26, 2009 and January 25, 2012)
• Adult Division: 18 and above (born before January 25, 2009)

Repertoire requirements for the preliminary round

• Junior Division: one work of free choice, not exceeding 8 minutes
• Youth A and B Divisions: one étude (any composer) + one Allegro movement from a classical sonata (Scarlatti, Clementi, Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven), or a work of choice by a Chinese composer, not exceeding 15 minutes
• Adult Division: one technical étude (Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Scriabin or Debussy) + one Allegro movement from a classical sonata or a work by a Chinese composer, not exceeding 15 minutes

Contestants with an average preliminary score above 90 are eligible to advance to the Final in Yunnan.

Repertoire requirements for the final round

• Junior Division: one work of free choice (any style), not exceeding 10 minutes
• Youth A and B Divisions: one work by any Russian composer + one work of free choice, not exceeding 20 minutes
• Adult Division: one work by any Russian composer + one work of free choice, not exceeding 25 minutes

Artist Division (born on or after January 26, 1995, under the age of 32)

• Online qualifying round: total video duration ≤ 15 minutes, one technical étude + one work of free choice; deadline November 30, 2026; no more than 40 contestants advance
• On-site preliminary round: performance ≤ 15 minutes, one technical étude + one work of free choice (may repeat the qualifying round); no more than 15 contestants advance
• On-site semi-final: performance ≤ 30 minutes, program freely arranged (may not repeat the qualifying or preliminary rounds), must include at least one work by a Russian composer of no less than 8 minutes; no more than 6 contestants advance
• On-site final: performance of a chamber music work with professional musicians engaged by the Organizing Committee, one work selected from the designated repertoire: Arensky’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 32, or Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49

*In all divisions and all rounds, repeat marks are not observed except where Da Capo al Fine requires the return to Fine. All works must be performed from memory; only the chamber music final may be performed with the score.

Video recording requirements for the qualifying round: recorded in landscape orientation in a single unedited take at 1920×1080 resolution, with no post-editing; all repertoire must be submitted as a single file, named “contestant name + division”; send to lyd@lydart.cn; for files over 500 MB, upload to Baidu Netdisk (百度网盘) and submit a permanent share link without extraction code.

Jury members score independently on a 100-point scale, to one decimal place.

In the tabulation of scores, the highest and lowest scores are dropped, and the average of the remaining scores constitutes the contestant’s final score.

All scoring records are archived by the adjudication supervision department for a period of 3 years.

In the event of a tie, the Chair of the Jury convenes the jury members for deliberation to determine the final ranking.

The decisions of the jury are final; the Organizing Committee holds the right of final interpretation of the competition results.

Tiered participation awards

• Contestants who successfully submit a qualifying-round video receive a commemorative certificate signed by the jury
• Contestants admitted to the Main Competition in Yunnan receive a participation certificate collectively signed by the jury
• Finalists who receive a placement are invited to perform in solo and chamber music recitals and to collaborate with renowned symphony orchestras at home and abroad
• Finalists receive free admission to public concerts and open masterclasses

Artist Division

• First Prize (1 recipient): CNY 20,000 + trophy and certificate of honor
• Second Prize (1 recipient): CNY 10,000 + trophy and certificate of honor
• Third Prize (1 recipient): CNY 5,000 + trophy and certificate of honor
• Best Chamber Music Performance Award (1 recipient): CNY 3,000 + certificate of honor
• Women Artists Award (1 recipient): open to female contestants of the Artist Division only

Companion honors

• Outstanding Instructor Award: presented to teachers whose students win First Prize in any division
• Outstanding Organization Award: presented to institutions or units registering more than 30 contestants

Rules for the distribution of awards: certificates and trophies are presented at the award ceremony (mailing available upon request, at the recipient’s expense); cash prizes are transferred by bank within 15 working days after the award ceremony, with taxes withheld and remitted in accordance with applicable laws; career development awards are arranged in a unified manner within 6 months after the competition.

Levels of violations and penalties

• Minor violations (late arrival, improper attire, exceeding the time limit, mobile phone not switched off): verbal warning, point deduction
• Serious violations (unauthorized change of repertoire, performing with the score where memory performance is required, companions disrupting order in the competition venue): termination of the performance, cancellation of the round result
• Severe violations (performance substitution, playback fraud, technical falsification, bribery of jury members, verbal abuse of jury members or staff): disqualification, revocation of all awards, industry-wide notification and permanent ban from the competition

Violation handling procedure: violations identified on site are recorded and notified to the contestant by the Competition Director; severe violations are submitted to the Arbitration Committee of the Organizing Committee for deliberation; the decision is delivered in writing and publicized on the official platforms.

Audio-visual copyright: the Organizing Committee is exclusively responsible for the audio and video recording and dissemination of the competition; the copyright belongs to the Yunnan International Festival of Russian Music and Harbin Linyindu Culture & Art Co., Ltd., which are entitled to use it for non-commercial purposes such as competition promotion, publicity and education.

Portrait rights: by registering for the competition, contestants are deemed to consent to the gratuitous use of their likeness by the Organizing Committee for the promotion of the competition (official website, WeChat account, posters, promotional videos, etc.), for a period of 5 years from the date of the competition.

Prohibition of third-party recording: unauthorized audio recording, video recording or live streaming is strictly prohibited at the competition venue; staff are entitled to intervene and demand deletion.

Privacy protection: contestants’ personal information is used solely for this competition and will not be disclosed to any third party without authorization.

Documents to present: the contestant’s valid identity document and proof of payment

Items to collect: contestant badge, competition handbook, souvenirs and observer pass (each contestant may collect 1 observer pass for an accompanying person)

Visa arrangements: contestants are responsible for obtaining their own visas to enter China; the organizers assist in providing the required documents.

Medical care and safety: in the event of sudden illness during the competition, emergency medical assistance is available through on-site staff; the Organizing Committee recommends that all contestants purchase personal accident insurance.

Management of accompanying persons: each contestant may be accompanied by a maximum of 1 person, who may enter the observer area of the venue with an observer pass but not the backstage area.

Venue rules:

• Contestants must arrive at the waiting area 30 minutes before their performance; lateness exceeding 15 minutes is deemed an automatic withdrawal
• If the performed repertoire does not match the registration materials, the jury is entitled to terminate the performance
• All works must be performed from memory (except chamber music works)
• No private communication with jury members is permitted during the competition
• Smoking, food and beverages and loud conversation are prohibited in the venue; mobile phones must be silenced

Refund policy: contestants who are unable to participate due to force majeure (acute illness or injury, government policy, epidemics, earthquakes, natural disasters, etc.) may apply for a refund. Applications must be submitted no later than 20 working days before the corresponding registration deadline, accompanied by a medical certificate or relevant official documents. Approved refunds are returned via the original payment method within 15 working days.

These Statutes take effect on the date of publication.

Matters not covered herein are subject to supplementary rules formulated separately by the Organizing Committee, which carry the same legal effect as these Statutes.

Amendments to these Statutes must be deliberated and adopted by the Organizing Committee and take effect upon publication on the Official WeChat Account.

These Statutes are provided in Chinese and English; in the event of any discrepancy between the two versions, the Chinese version shall prevail.

The right of final interpretation of this competition belongs to the Yunnan International Festival of Russian Music Organizing Committee.
